I use my one unit stacks not to raid but to conquer AI territory without diverting my main force from its route from one walled city to the next.ĭon't knock until you try it. The AI armies seldom can catch your marauding nobles: just retreat and they likely can't follow up. Once I (very belatedly) realised you could move armies out of settlements at no movement point cost, it became possible to run riot in the AI lands, repaying their mischief with interest. I recruit a couple of expendable nobles and have them accompany my army, grabbing outlying settlements. The AI taught me its hit and run strategy and now adopting similar practice myself vastly speeds up my own offensives. Having sunk 2800 hours into Attila - most of them fighting garrison battles in unwalled settlements, the lack of garrisons in ToB was a welcome relief to me.Ĭoping with marauding raids seems quite appropriate to the period and anyway soon stops being a problem in game (its an early game kind of issue, when you have few troops - although to be honest most of the challenge of ToB comes in the early game).
